It is strangely comforting to think that all of the stress and sleepless nights we gave our parents when we began driving will be repaid in kind. Remember how the keys represented a freedom well worth the dangers? And remember how upset we were if that was taken away? Now imagine asking your parents or grandparents to stop driving. Exciting volunteer opportunities are coming this fall as part of the Alzheimer Society’s new Volunteer Mobilization Initiative. When Don Mastin invited me to spend the day with him and his wife Eileen, I was delighted. Eileen was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s disease 11 years ago, at that time Don retired to become a caregiver.
