Why do I volunteer?

I am currently on the Board of Directors for the Alzheimer Society of Ontario. My interest is driven by a few reasons: having Alzheimer’s disease in my family I know how taxing it can be on loved ones and frustrating it can be for the individual; giving back to society; wanting to make a difference to the people we serve and the Alzheimer’s Society donors; and selfishly feeling good about myself.

What is my background?

I am currently Chief Operating Officer of Home Health for CBI Health Group, which includes We Care Health Services where I lead a team of over 7,000.  Prior to joining We Care, I was in Europe in Lausanne, Switzerland at Barnes Group Inc. where I spent four years in a variety of General Management positions.  Previously, I spent several years in senior positions with large fortune 500 companies in Senior leadership roles.

What is my impact?

As a part of the Board of Directors, our role is to guide the organization’s efforts to help people living with the disease and their caregivers, fund research and educate communities across the province. I love being a part of such a group of dedicated individuals. The entire board is focused around one cause and the heartfelt sentiment of making a difference.  There is no other group that is so passionate on creating a world without Alzheimer’s and helping to provide resources to those who have the disease.

Why should you volunteer?

It’s a great cause, and needs so many more people engaged to really provide the resources that will make a difference.  The rising tide of Alzheimer’s is approaching and there is so much that a volunteer can do from helping our local chapters in helping support families, to board opportunities.  Not only will you make a difference to the Alzheimer’s Society it will give you greater fulfillment in your life, which has made a difference in my wellbeing.  You’ll wish you could do more.
